Man pleads guilty to sex with minor
LISBON — William A.A. Poteet, the man who was recently found guilty of felonious assault following a two-day jury trial, was back in Common Pleas Court Tuesday facing an unrelated charge involving having sex with a minor.
Poteet, who also goes by Alex, 21, Mountz Road, East Rochester, pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. The charge is a fourth-degree felony. A second charge of gross sexual imposition will be dismissed at the time of sentencing.
The prosecutor’s office will be asking for a nine-month term for the unlawful sexual conduct charge, according to Assistant County Prosecutor Alec Beech, who was filling in for Chief Assistant County Prosecutor John Gamble.
According to the court documents, Poteet had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old child in his vehicle on Nov. 2, 2018, while he was parked near Rose Drive in Lisbon.
Although there was no mention either way in court plea agreement documents, Judge Scott Washam went over the possibility that Poteet may be required to register as a sexual offender as part of any sentence he receives when he returns for sentencing on Aug. 9.
The sentencing hearing in this case is scheduled for the same morning as his sentencing in the felonious assault conviction, which followed a jury trial last week. Poteet is facing up to eight years in prison for that second-degree felony charge, which came from stabbing Cody Pierson multiple times during a fight, which broke out during a 2018 St. Patrick’s Day weekend party at Poteet’s home.
