YOUNGSTOWN – Helen Carmello, 96, of Youngstown, formerly of the Lexington Courtyard in Salem, where she lived for eight years, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 at Austinwoods Nursing Center in Austintown.
She was born Sept. 27, 1916 in Youngstown, Ohio, daughter of the late Frank and Noemi (Lepore) Ficocelli.
Helen worked for many years for Strouss-Hirshberg Company in Youngstown. She was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Youngstown, and St. Anthony’s Altar and Rosary Society.
Her husband, Nick Carmello, whom she married, April 17, 1944, preceded her in death Aug. 11, 2002.
Survivors include two sons, Felix (Joanne) Carmello of Canfield and Edward (Kathy) Carmello of Belair, Md.; daughter, Marena Carmello of Salem; and six grandchildren, Nick (Angeligue) Carmello, Kristin (Dave) MacBride, Anthony (Kimberly) Carmello, Michael (Amy) Carmello, Jason (Jen) Carmello, Andrew (Kelly) Carmello; and 11 great-grandchildren, whom she called “her babies” and brought extreme joy to her life.
Two sisters, Dorothy Soricelli and Kathryn Marsco, and three brothers, Michael, Nick and Anthony Ficocelli also preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 at the St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Robert Edwards officiating.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Youngstown.
