ELLSWORTH – Services celebrating the life of Bernice Keslar, 92, will be held at noon Saturday at the Ellsworth Presbyterian Church.
Bernice was born Jan. 27, 1920, in Ellsworth, the daughter of William and Iola (Gilmer) Schaffer and was a lifelong area resident.
Bernice graduated from Canfield High School in 1938 and Salem School of Nursing in 1941. For many years Bernice was employed as a nurse for Columbiana County, she retired in the 1970s from Mahoning County Joint Vocational School as the school nurse. Years ago she was referred to as the Ellsworth Township doctor.
She was very active in American Red Cross Blood drives. Bernice was a long time member of Ellsworth Presbyterian Church where she had been church organist for over 50 years and belonged to King’s Daughters of the church.
Bernice will be sadly missed by her son, Gary (Nancy) Keslar; grandchildren, Matthew (Philomena), Anna (Steve), Kelsey; great-grandchildren, Steven, Autumn, Adrian, Leeve; and nephew, Roger Heineman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Keslar, whom she married March 30, 1942, who died March 15, 1992; a sister, Ruth Heineman; and a niece, Jeanette Heineman.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to time of services Saturday at the church. The family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to the Ellsworth Presbyterian Church in Bernice’s name.
