Luster C. Mellinger

SALEM – Luster C. Mellinger, 79, died Saturday evening at the Salem Community Hospital.

Born Jan. 22, 1933, in North Lima, he was the son of Adin and Ethel (Cooley) Mellinger.

Mr. Mellinger retired from Metal Carbides in Boardman where he worked as a furnace operator after 31 years. He then worked for Ace Hardware in Columbiana for 22 years.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Shirley Mae McCowin, whom he married on Aug. 10, 1951; three sons, Larry (Judie) and Jeff (Jeanine) of Columbiana and Robert (Nancy) of Warren; a daughter, Judy Trussell of Columbiana; 12 grandchildren, including Jennifer (David) and Ken, of which he raised after his daughter Janis Stephenson’s death in 1983; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Yvonne Garlich, Charlotte (Bill) Evankovich and Sue Weeden.

Upon his wishes his body was donated to The Ohio University of Medicine.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at the Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
