Ruth V. Jeffries

SALEM – Ruth V. Jeffries, 94, formerly of Southeast Boulevard and the Courtyard at Lexington, Salem, died Monday morning, Jan. 21, 2013, in Salem.

She was born March 7, 1918, in Greenford, Ohio, a daughter of the late Guy W. and Almina (Clay) Rhodes.

Ruth retired in 1990 from the Salem Junior High School as the assistant cafeteria manager, with 25 years of service. She was a member of the First Friends Church and a 1936 graduate of Greenford High School.

Her husband Robert D. Jeffries, whom she married Jan. 30, 1937, preceded her in death Sept. 27, 1990.

A sister Bertha Hendricks also preceded in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice J. (Kenneth) Bosu of Salem and Barbara L. (Brent) Thomas of Salem; a son, Gary D. (Rebecca) Jeffries of Salem; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was noted for her radiant smile and cheerful attitude. She adored her family and loved entertaining them at her “backyard barbecues.” One of her favorite pastimes was shopping with her sister, Bertha, and her many friends. Ruth was never too busy to help family and friends. She was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and rarely missed a game.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Pete Fowler officiating.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will be at the Hope Cemetery in Salem.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and care by the Courtyard at Lexington and Essex of Salem II.
