James T. Benedict

MARYSVILLE – James T. Benedict, 91, of Marysville, formerly of Salem, died Wednesday at Heartland of Marysville following an extended illness.

Born Jan. 9, 1922, in Leetonia, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rosa Saccitti Benedict.

Mr. Benedict retired as a supervisor with Eljer’s Plumbing in Salem where he had worked for over 30 years. He was a graduate of Salem High School, served his country during World War II in the US Army, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death on July 28, 2008, by his wife, the former Ana Cosgarea, whom he married on Aug. 30, 1947.

Survivors include his two sons, Jim (Carol) Benedict of Westerville and Denny Benedict of Columbus; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Mannasmith Funeral Home, 621 W. Fifth St., Marysville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1033 W. Fifth St., Marysville. The Rev. David Poliafico will officiate. Burial with military honors conducted by the Union County Honor Guard at the church cemetery.
