EAST PALESTINE – Josephine Planko, 93, of Claybrook Drive, died at 3:20 a.m. Monday at Omni Manor, Youngstown, where she had been a patient for the past 11 months.
She was born March 14, 1920 in East Palestine, a daughter of the late James and Raffaela Bozzo Bruno, and was a lifelong resident of the community. Prior to her retirement she had been employed as a sales clerk with the former J.J. Newberry Co.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
Her husband, Stephen J. Planko, whom she married Nov. 20, 1941, preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1998.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Lemley, Hummelstown, Pa., and Mary Lou Planko and Cyndi Landsberger, both of Youngstown; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Mathilda Bruno and a brother, John Bruno, both of East Palestine.
Her daughters would like to thank Omni Manor Health Center and the caregivers on the west unit for their care.
The family will receive friends at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, with the Rev. Thomas Ziegler serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
