Roger D. Williams

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Roger D. Williams, 54, unexpectedly died Monday, April 8 in his residence.

Born in Indiana, he was the son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Kelsey) Williams.

He was a graduate of East Palestine High School.

Commander Williams enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1976, obtained a commission as a naval officer in 1981 and achieved the rank of commander. While in the U.S. Navy he served in Misawa Japan, Guam, Pearl Harbor and Subic Bay. He was in the Command Carrier Strike Group and currently in The Fleet Information Warfare Center, Norfolk, Va.

He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

Commander Williams is survived by his wife of 27 years, Marivic ; his daughter, Kimberly; two brothers, Bruce Williams of Salem and Timothy Williams of Peyton, Colo.; and a sister, Pamela Dunn of Newton Falls.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 621 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Father Romeo Jazmin will officiate. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.

Calling hours will begin today with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home and Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake.
