Fred L. Bowman

LISBON – Fred L. Bowman, 91, of state Route 30, died at 5:15 a.m. Sunday at the Vista Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Bowman was born March 14, 1922 in Lisbon, a son of the late Clayson and Winnie (Gromley) Bowman, and had lived in the area all of his life.

Fred worked as a certified electrician for Standard Electric in Wellsville for many years, then he worked at the W. H. Sammis power plant in Stratton for 10 years, retiring in 1984.

He was a Presbyterian by faith.

Later in life, Mr. Bowman became a machinist and built many miniature working steam engines.

Mr. Bowman also served our country during WWII as a member of the U.S. Army, serving with the 970th Counter Intelligence Corp. detachment.

He is survived by his wife, Rose (Lamana) Bowman, whom he married, Aug. 22, 1971; son, Rick (Linda) Bowman of Lisbon; daughter, Sandy (Bob) Snelling of Indianapolis, IN; stepdaughter, Tina (David) Smith of Canfield; stepson, John Lenkey of Columbiana; sister, Naomi (the late Charles) Morlan of Lisbon; brother, Willis (Sheila) Bowman of Leetonia; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Clayson Lee, Leland, Wayne and infant son, Eddie Bowman; daughter, Donna Onuska and infant daughter, Barbara Bowman.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Wednesday at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Jones of the Lisbon Trinity Friends Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Lisbon Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Salem Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
