John F. Dotson

CANFIELD- There will be funeral services at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Lane Family Funeral Homes, 65 N. Broad St., Canfield Chapel, for John F. Dotson, 74, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 18, at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center in Columbiana.

John was born April 27,1939, in Winona, Ohio, a son of the late George Frederick and Mary (Baird) Dotson, and later moved to Salem.

After graduating from Salem High School in the Class of 1957, John went on to serve honorably on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps, receiving an honorable discharge in 1962. While serving as a Marine, John received the honor of serving as a guard for the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland.

John graduated from Youngstown State University in 1974 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He was the administrative manager at Hill, Barth & King CPAs Inc., retiring after 17 years of service. Previously he was an accountant at Ajax Magnathermic Company in Warren.

John was a member of the Institute of Management Accountants and a member of the Mahoning Valley Chapter of the National Association of Accountants where he had served as president.

He was an avid bowler and golfer in several leagues.

He leaves his wife, the former Loretta Klimko, whom he married Feb. 7, 1970; his daughter, Lesley Dotson of Columbus; his son, Thomas (Lynn) Dotson of Columbus; a grandson, William J. Dotson; a sister, Doris (Francis) Alexander, of Watertown, N. Y.; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Jean Dotson.

Family and friends will be received from 11 am to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel. A military burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery in Campbell.

The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, 2805 Salts Springs Rd., Youngstown OH 44509.
