Austin C. Rush

LISBON – MSgt. Austin C. Rush, USAF (Ret), 83, of Center Township, Lisbon, died at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Community Hospital.

He was a former resident of Panama City, Fla. He moved to the area and lived with his nephew and niece, Jim and Sandy Rush.

Austin Clair, son of Robert Earl and Iva Pearl (Wade) Rush, was born on Sept. 4, 1929 in Pine Grove, W.Va. He and his three brothers, Robert Earl, John Howard and Delbert Eugene grew up in the area.

He went into the US Air Force and remained there for 27 years. He was a member of the Pararescue, and would jump to save the lives of those who were hurt on the ground or at crash sites. He and his fellow members were responsible for saving the lives of many of our injured soldiers. He retired from the military and went into Civil Service work for nine years as a health inspector until January 1993. He went on to serve in the maintenance department at Tyndall AF Base Hospital. He inquired about a hospital administrator position and was assigned to the Frankfurt Germany Military Hospital during the Desert Storm war. He was a part of the Department of Air Force Facilities Management. At the end of that assignment, he and his wife went back to Panama City, Fla.

He is also survived by two sons, Ben (Christine) and Joshua (Latifa) Rush, both of Panama City, Fla., three grandchildren and one step grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on Feb. 28, 2012, by his wife, the former Nina Bent Aomar, whom he married on July 22, 1958.

A funeral service is being planned and will be announced.

He and Nina will be joined “together again”, as they will be laid to rest together in the Rush Family Cemetery, Wileyville, W. Va.
