Clair Booke Leeper
SALEM – Clair Booke Leeper, 95, died at 1:50 am. Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the Essex of Salem #II Nursing Center.
He was born Oct. 21, 1917 in Hanoverton, Ohio, the son of the late William S. and Blanche C. (Booke) Leeper.
Clair retired from the city of Salem as a water plant operator in December 1982. Previously he had worked at the Salem Tool Company.
He was a member of the Salem First United Methodist Church. He was a past president of the Salem Booster’s Club and had attended Hanoverton High School.
Clair was a World War II veteran, serving as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army in the European and Pacific theaters from 1942 to 1946.
He was preceded in death on December 16, 2012 by his wife, Mary Jane (Whinery) Leeper, whom he married April 14, 1950.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil W. Leeper and Emmett W. Leeper; and one sister, Kathryn M. Wernet.
He is survived by a son, William R. Leeper of Salem.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Doug George of the church officiating. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery in Hanoverton.
