Lois A. Hickey Peters
SALEM – Lois A. Hickey Peters of 28963 Hartley Road, Salem, Ohio, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital on July 7, 2013, of complications from a serious car crash on June 20, 2013, near Roanoke, Va.
She was born in Salem on Jan. 2, 1959, and is the daughter of Robert Hickey and the late Nancy Hickey.
A 1977 graduate of Salem High School, Lois married Robert “Nick” Peters on June 16, 1979. Shortly after, she joined the family business, Hickey Metal Fabrication and has been an integral part of the business, serving as the corporate secretary/treasurer.
Lois was a vibrant and loving person. She enjoyed being at their farm or traveling, spending quality time with her husband Nick. Her two sons, Nick and Ben, were truly her pride and joy. Lois’ brother Leo was her right hand man throughout her 54 years here with us. One thing is for sure, Lois made the most out of everyday.
She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Nick Peters; two sons, Nicholas Peters and Benjamin Peters; her father, Robert Hickey; brother, Leo Hickey and sister-in-law Suzanne Hickey, all of Salem; her nephews, Keith (Noelle) Hickey of Jacksonville, Fla., and Adam Hickey of Columbus, Ohio, and her two uncles. She is also survived by numerous brothers and sisters in-law, Glenda (Neil) Liber of Brenham, Texas, James Peters of Salem, Edward (A.J.) Peters of Columbiana, Kenneth (Jayne) Peters of Salem, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Hickey.
The family wishes to thank Lois’ many friends for the love, support and prayers over the past 18 days and for days to come. We would also like to thank the wonderful doctors and nursing staff of the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their love and care during a difficult journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you designate donations to be made to the “Lois A. Peters Memorial Scholarship” through the Salem High School Alumni Association, 330 E. State St., Salem, Ohio 44460.
Friends may call at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, July 11, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Services will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church on Friday, July 12, 2013, at 11 a.m., with Father Robert Edwards officiating and assisted by Pastor Doug George of the Methodist Church. A prayer vigil and burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Salem.
