Ruth E. Sanor
SALEM – Ruth E. Sanor, 90, of Salem, died Monday morning, July 15, 2013 at the Auburn Skilled Nursing Center in Damascus surrounded by her family.
She was born June 26, 1923 in Salem, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Mundy) Walpert.
Ruth was a 1942 graduate of Leetonia High School. She was a homemaker, who also worked on the farm, in the fields, milked the cows, and worked in the garden along with canning and cooking.
She was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church, CDA #1021, Pomona, State and National Granges, the Ladies United Commercial Travelers Auxiliary, 70-year member of the Willow Grove Grange #1688 – where she cooked many meals, a member of the Columbiana County Farm Bureau and was a 4H advisor for 28 years.
She enjoyed wintering in Florida, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her dog, Cookie. Ruth and Don had recently celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary with a wedding ceremony and renewing of their vows.
Her husband, Donald L. Sanor, whom she married Jan. 20, 1943 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Leetonia, preceded her in death April 18, 2013. A grandson, Darrin Huston, two sisters, Helen Chaplow and Marguerite Prior and two brothers Raymond and Charles also preceded her in death.
Survivors include seven children, Donnette Huston, Ron (Nancy) Sanor, Tom (Jackie) Sanor and Larry (Dawn) Sanor, all of Salem, and Luanne Sanor of Damascus, Patti (Mike) Cardone of Lakewood and Rita (Chuck) Blake of Cincinnati; 23 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Robert Edwards officiating. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with a Prayer Vigil at 8:30 p.m. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
