Virginia H. Mason

SALEM – Virginia H. Mason, 95, of Salem, died at 7:10 p.m. Monday at Essex of Salem I.

Born July 9, 1917, in Amboy, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Aubert and Edna (Sypolt) Long.

Mrs. Mason was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Leetonia. She served as a teletype operator in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Gail DeGrange of Aransas Pass, Texas; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth “Libby” Piccolo of Salem and Blanche Drandakis of Oakdale, Pa.; and two brothers, Glenn Long of Delaware, Ohio, and Ray Long of Pittsburgh.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating.

Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard.
