Coral C. Edgar Stevens

COLUMBIANA – Coral C. Edgar Stevens, 96, of Columbiana, formerly of Defiance, died at 6:55 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at the Covington Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in East Palestine.

Coral was born Sept. 12, 1916, in Tedrow, Ohio, a daughter of James Arthur and Martha Celesta Wenzel and lived in the Fulton County area until moving to Defiance when she married her husband, Earl E. Edgar on Sept. 12, 1937. Together, they owned and operated the former Edgar Furniture Company in Defiance, Ohio, for several years until they retired in 1980.

Coral and Earl moved to Leetonia, Ohio, in 1980, where they lived until Earl’s death on Aug. 15, 1984. She later married Everett C. Stevens and lived in Winter Garden, Fla., until his death on Feb. 12, 2005. Since 2005, she has resided at Whispering Pines Village in Columbiana and Covington in East Palestine.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Kyle (Chris) Dickman of Kissimmee, Fla., Kory (Karla) Dickman of Lees Summit, Mont., and Gena (Steve) Hovious of Vicksburg, Mich.; eight great-grandchildren, Micheal, Mike, Jacob, and Kaitlin Dickman, Kabriel and Kourtney Dickman, and Stevie and Josie Hovious; and several nieces and nephews, including her caregivers, Jon and Ellen Rettig of Columbiana.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly Edgar Collier on Nov. 24, 1977; three sisters, Lucille Max, Dorothy Palmer, and Nedra Jean Rettig; and three brothers, James Call, Blaine Call, and Leon Call.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at the Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, Ohio, with the Rev. Marvin Rettig officiating. Entombment will take place in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance.

Friends may call at the Schaffer Funeral Home from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday and at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home in Columbiana from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
