Ernest D. “Joe” Smith

BOARDMAN – Ernest D. “Joe” Smith, 80, died Wednesday afternoon at his home.

Born June 20, 1933, in German Township, Pa., he the son of Brian and Bessie (Davis) Smith.

Mr. Smith served his country in the Army and was stationed in Germany from 1953 to 1956 during the Korean War. He was a structural ironworker for over 50 years and was a member of the Boardman United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Survivors include his daughters, Joan Vujovich and Jill A. Stofira, both of Charlotte, N.C, Janne Oriole of Manchester, N. H., and Joy Craven of Boardman; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; and his sister, Hazel Slabaugh Franks of Masontown, Pa.

He was preceded in death Dec. 27, 2009, by his wife, the former Louise Johnson, whom he married on Aug. 24, 1954; and an infant daughter.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home in North Lima. Services will follow at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Pam Buzalka officiating.

Interment services begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Uniontown, Pa.
