Nadine Frances Smith
BERLIN CENTER – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Berlin Center United Methodist Church, 15611 Akron-Canfield Road, for Nadine Frances Smith, 85, of Berlin Center who died Wednesday afternoon at Hospice House of Poland.
Nadine was born April 20, 1928, in Irwin, Pa., a daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Pfeiffer Clark.
Nadine grew up in Irwin, graduating from Norwin High School and moving to Hiram, Ohio, in the 1950s and settling in Berlin Center in 1968. She had been a bookkeeper for Thomas and Neill Renault Car Dealership in Alliance for over 20 years and had been a notary public serving Mahoning County for many years.
She was a member of Berlin Center United Methodist Church; enjoyed gardening and canning the many things she had grown. Nadine loved music and dancing and had modeled for a camera club as a young woman. She was an avid bowler, belonging to several leagues and also an avid swimmer. She had taught many children how to swim and had also taught life saving classes.She was a lover of nature and animals, especially dogs and had many dogs during her lifetime.
Her husband, Bruce G. Smith, whom she married Oct. 3, 1970, died Jan. 16, 2011.
She leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Doug Battershell of Damascus; two sons, Jim Whitlam of Berlin Center and Mike Trimble of Columbiana; three grandchildren, Stacey Spears, Kyle Trimble and Ryan Trimble; two great- granddaughters, Riley Spears and Reese Spears; a brother, John E. Clark of Garrettsville, Ohio; and her beloved dog, Ziggy.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church prior to the service.
