Richard D. Byland
LISBON – Richard D. “Dick” Byland, 81, of Guilford Lake, died Friday at the Salem Community Hospital.
Born March 5, 1932, in East Liverpool, he was a son of the late James I. Byland Sr. and Ruth Porter Byland.
Mr. Byland was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Navy, mostly in Japan. He was employed by the former Ohio Bell Company, which later became Ameritech, until his retirement in 1987.
Survivors include his wife, Lynda McCoy Byland at home, whom he married June 2, 1956; a son, David Byland and his wife Laura of Birmingham, Ala.; two daughters, Debrah Papenfuse and her husband Michael of Saginaw, Mich., and Terri Ijamal and her husband Rashid of Thompsons Station, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, James Byland Jr., and his wife Cecilia of San Diego, Calif., and Edward Byland and his wife Audrey of Chester, W. Va.; and two sisters, Barbara James of Orlando, Fla., and Linda Buchheit of Columbiana.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel Richard Byland.
Friends may visit Sunday at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool where the family will be present from noon to 2 p.m.
The Rev. Dale Sutton of the First United Methodist Church will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide military honors.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
