Fredrick Earl Sommers
BRADENTON, Fla. – Fredrick Earl Sommers passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at his home in Bradenton, Fla.
He was born in Salem, Ohio, on March 3, 1928, the son of George and Elizabeth (Lease) Sommers.
Fred attended Salem Schools and was a member of the First Christian Church. He served in the Air Force from 1946 to 1949. In 1991 he retired from Crane Deming Company.
Fred enjoyed golfing all of his life beginning as a caddie at the Salem Golf Club at the age of 14. He also enjoyed dancing, swimming and fishing as well as taking trips with Pat, traveling to Morgantown, W.Va., and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his long time companion, Pat Sinclair; three children, Catherine McLaughlin of Englewood, Fla., Debbie (Jim) Grupposo of Fernadina Beach, Fla.; a son Steven (Kim) Sommers of Salem, Ohio; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William, Eugene and George; and five sisters, Anna French, Mary Reed, Helen Vild, Margaret Spencer and Elsie Leider.
Cremation is scheduled and a memorial service will be held at Plantation Grove Retirement Community on Friday, November 15, for friends and family.
