Robert William Luth

SALEM – Robert William Luth, 89, of Salem, died on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at his residence. Thanks be to God Who sends His angels to rescue the suffering.

He was born on March 9, 1924, in Youngstown, a son of the late Eric Luth and the late Elizabeth Habeger Luth.

Robert was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in both WWII and the Korean War. He worked as a locomotive repairman for 39 years at U.S. Steel in Youngstown, retiring in 1980.

Robert was a member of the Argus Masonic Lodge # 545 F & AM, Canfield, the Salem Eagles #316, VFW York Drexler Post #5532, Washingtonville and the American Legion Joe Williams Post #131, Leetonia. He was also a member of the Canfield Harness Horseman’s Association for many years. Robert enjoyed breeding, training and racing harness horses with his brother William.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth M. Sholders Luth, whom he married on Sept. 5, 1944; a daughter, Bobbi (William) Frost of Simpsonville, Ky.; a brother, William Luth of Canfield; and a sister, Elsie Luth of Canfield. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Debbie (Rusty) Heeter, Patty (Michael) Watts and Joe (Jane) Bugoski; eight great-grandchildren; and six-great-great grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by a stepson, Joseph Bugoski, a brother, Edwin Luth, and by a sister, Gladys Luth.

Per his request, no services will be held.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home in Leetonia.
