Dorothy (Lutsch) O’Mealy

SEBRING – Dorothy (Lutsch) O’Mealy, 89, of Sebring, formerly of Alliance, passed away at 11:35 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Aultman Hospital.

She was born Oct. 7, 1924, in Salem, Ohio, to John and Susanna (Schmidt) Lutsch.

Mrs. O’Mealy was a graduate of Salem High School and worked from 1942 to 1952 for Deming Company as a stenographer and switchboard operator.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she was financial secretary for 35 years, Sunday school teacher for 20 years, member of the choir, church council, Club 55, Women of the ELCA and helped serve funeral meals. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Alliance Ladies Shrine Club Chapter 19, past high priestess and member of the clown unit. She was also active with the Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Canfield, officer with the Marlington Band Boosters, United Way volunteer, member of the Salem Players Club and a Girl Scout Leader. Mrs. O’Mealy loved swimming, working crossword puzzles, reading murder mysteries and was fond of her trips to New York City.

Survivors include her daughters, Susanne (Ron) Tarnovich of Charlotte, N.C., and Constance (Timothy) Mentzer of Lancaster, Pa,; grandchildren, Jennifer (John) May, Douglas (Melissa) Tarnovich and Andrew Mentzer; great-grandchildren, Vince Wade and Katje Tarnovich; and a brother, John Lutsch of Columbus.

Mrs. O’Mealy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert H. O’Mealy Jr., whom she married June 1952, and who died April 9, 2002; sisters, Susan Schmid and Mary Batzli; and a brother, Max Lutsch.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alliance with the Rev. Timothy Muse officiating.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service Sunday at the church. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park at a later date.
