Ernest Eugene Kovach

CANFIELD – Ernest Eugene Kovach 91, of Canfield, died at 4:25 p.m. Saturday at Essex I of Salem where he had just moved as a patient.

Born June 30, 1922, in Rosemont, Ellsworth Township, he was the son of the late Steve and Rose (Balogh) Kovach.

Mr. Kovach had been an engineer at US Steel for 35 years. He served in the Army during World War II and was Presbyterian by faith.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, the former Elizabeth Cora Kirkbride, whom he married Aug. 24, 1957; a stepson, A. Kirk (Sandra) Hawkins of Beloit; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Ralph L. Hawkins.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services in Salem. The Rev. Robert Rowley, chaplain of Salem Regional Medical Center, will officiate.

A time of visitation will be observed one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the Salem Honor Guard and assisted by the Ellsworth Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9571.
