James E. “Gerb” Gerber
SALEM – James E. “Gerb” Gerber, 69, of Salem, died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 at his home with his wife by his side.
He was born Feb. 17, 1944, in Salem, Ohio, son of the late Ernest A. and Leota M. (Iler) Gerber.
Jim was a union electrician with Local 64 of Youngstown for 40 years and he last worked for Tri Area Electric in Youngstown. He also helped his wife Tonia operate the Side Door Tavern.
He was a 1963 graduate of West Branch High School and attended the IBEW Trades School for four years. Jim was a member of the Salem Hunting Club, life member of the Italian-American Club, life member of the Salem Elks Lodge 305 and a Past master of the Perry Masonic Lodge. He was a former member of the Western Reserve Flyers Motor Cycle Club. Jim was an airplane pilot and also enjoyed riding and racing motorcycles.
Survivors include his wife, Tonia L. (Augusta) Gerber, whom he married July 31, 1976; sons, Gordon (Jenette) McClellan of Falls Church, Va., and Bob (Bonnie) McClellan of Beloit; a daughter, Kim Brooks of Springfield; four grandchildren, Audrey, Emily and Madeline McClellan and Felicity (Alex) Sweeney; and two great grandchildren, Corina and Memphis Sweeney.
His parents, two sisters, Joyce Skrowon and Diana Gerber; and his beloved dog, Tipper also preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at the Stark Memorial Funeral home with Rev. Terry Kirsch officiating.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The Perry Lodge F.&A.M. #185 will conduct a Masonic Service at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Highland Memorial Park at a later date.
