James E. Vankirk

EAST PALESTINE – James E. Vankirk, 73, of South Washington Street, formerly of Wellsville, died at 5:17 p.m. Monday at the Salem Regional Medical Center, where he had been admitted the day before.

Mr. Vankirk was born Sept. 24, 1940 in Alliance, a son of the late John E. and Gladys M. Callahan Vankirk, and had just recently returned to the East Palestine area from Wellsville. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a drill operator with Duncan Brothers Drilling. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by a son, James Patrick Vankirk of Rogers; and two daughters, Tammy Wilson of Negley and Kimberly Vankirk Elick of East Palestine. He also leaves seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, as well as a brother John Vankirk of Wisconsin.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, with a service to be held at the conclusion of calling hours.
