SALEM Marilyn Jean (Forney) Spanbauer, 81, of Salem died Jan. 30 at Salem Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

She was born May 6, 1932, a daughter of the late Howard and Helen Forney.

Survivors include her husband, Robert R. Spanbauer, whom she married Aug. 9, 1952; three sons, Robert Lee Spanbauer of Myrtle Beach, S. C., William Lee Spanbauer of Salem, and Lt. Col. Mrs. Spanbauer was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan Lee, in 1955; and by her sisters, Marjorie Crider and Evelyn Firestone.

An Army wife, she and the children joined her husband on two separate tours in Germany and leaves the family with fond memories of how she managed the household during her husband’s numerous separations on overseas tours not authorized for dependents.

She enjoyed reading, baking, needlework and raising her children.

Mrs. Spanbauer donated her body to Case Western Reserve University for medical research. A Celebration of Life in her honor will be held at a later date.
