Ronald “Pap” Smith
SALEM – Ronald “Pap” Smith, 76, died early Sunday afternoon, March 9, 2014, at Salem Community Hospital in Salem, Ohio.
He was born in Salineville, Ohio, on Aug. 15, 1937, to the late Joseph and Anna (Sambroak) Smith.
Pap served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958, then worked from 1958 until his retirement in 2005 as a heavy equipment operator and field mechanic. His last position was at Buckeye Industrial Mining Company from 1981 to 2005. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles of Carrollton.
He married the love of his life, Betty Young on May 27, 1961. Pap was a loving and caring husband, dad and especially a great “Pap” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pap and Betty like to travel, especially going on many bus trips together. He enjoyed spending time with his family and just being “Dad.”
He will be greatly missed by his wife Betty at home; two daughters, Ronda (Jim) Guido of Leetonia, Vickie (Phil) Dixon of Lisbon; three grandchildren, Jonathan (Joanna) Forbes, Lindsey (Chip) Roush, LeeAnne (Lee) Warner; and four great- grandchildren, Joe, Julia, Lexi and Jude.
Beside his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold Smith, Joe Smith, Wayne Smith and Dave Smith.
Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at the Kerr-Pastore Funeral Home in Salineville, Ohio, with Pastor Charles Cusick officiating.
Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Salineville, Ohio. Full military honors will be accorded by the Salineville John Adams Post 442 American Legion Honor Guard.
