Thelma E. VanFossan

EAST PALESTINE – Thelma E. VanFossan, 101, of East Palestine died Wednesday.

She was born in Canonsburg, Pa., on June 19, 1912, the daughter of the late Ina & Alfred Griffith.

She lived the majority of her life in East Palestine, graduating from East Palestine High School. Following graduation, she worked at the W.S. George Pottery; then became manager of the East Palestine Credit Bureau until retirement. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in East Palestine.

Besides her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Russell VanFossan, former Columbiana County sheriff, whom she married on June 14, 1935.

She is survived by a brother, James Griffith, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home at 644 East Main Street, followed by the funeral service at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. Mark McTrustry of her church.
