Ada Mae Cook

SALEM- Ada Mae Cook, 90, a former Salem resident died at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Crandall Medical Center in Sebring. Ada was born May 27, 1923 in Youngsville, N.C., a daughter of the late Lewis and Essie (Lloyd) Williams.

Ada was employed with the Ohio Bell Telephone Company, where she worked for 35 years as both an operator and a supervisor. Her memberships include the Salem First Friends Church and the Damascus United Methodist Church, the Salem Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 334, Salem Amaranth, the Telephone Pioneers and the former Salem Hospital Auxiliary.

Her hobbies included gardening and cooking and she loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She participated in the Salem are Cook-offs, where she won several ribbons for her entries. On Dec. 9, 1991 she won the Grand Champion Award for her Apple Pecan Oven Pancake and her Hot Cheese Dip.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Cook, whom she married March 27, 1948, on Nov. 25, 1986.

Survivors include one son, Gary (Brenda) Cook of Green, Ohio, and her twin grandchildren Emily and Garrett Cook also of Green; and one sister, Barbara Measley of Wilson, N.C.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Maggie Stone and Faye Williams, and one brother, Robert Williams.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Amey officiating. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.
