Donald “Gene” Bregar
NORTH LIMA Donald “Gene” Bregar, 88, of North Lima, died Sunday evening at his home.
Born Sept. 30, 1925, in Youngstown, he was the son of John and Grace May (Wilhelm) Bregar.
Mr. Bregar graduated from North Lima High School in 1943 and immediately enlisted in the Marine Corps, attaining the rank of corporal while serving in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was a member of Mount Olivet United Church of Christ and worked as a service manager at James A. Henderson Chevrolet in Youngstown for 20 years, at Mesmer Coal Co. as a driver, for the Beaver Township Road Crew for five years, and retired in 1989 after 20 years as service manager at Columbiana Chevrolet Motor Company. He also was a volunteer for the Beaver Township Fire Department for 26 years.
Survivors include his wife, the former Joan Smith, whom he married Aug. 28, 1948; two daughters, Linda (Eugene) Toy of Canfield and Diann (Terry) White-Soltis of North Lima; a son, Larry (Gerri) Bregar of Lisbon; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren with one on the way; and a brother, Dick (Thelma) Bregar of New Middletown.
Funeral services will be held at noon at the church, 410 W. South Range Road, with the Rev. Melinda Quellhorst officiating.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the church.
