Richard H. Dale
SALEM – Richard H. Dale, 88, of Salem, formerly of Struthers, passed away Sunday morning May 18, 2014, at the Salem Regional Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 3, 1925 in Poland, Ohio, son of the late L. Porter and Mary (Gibson) Dale.
He graduated from Poland High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II at the Battle for Okinawa. Upon returning to the states, he was honorably discharged.
Following a career with Ohio Water Service Company in Struthers, he retired to Salem. He was active in the First Presbyterian Church in Salem serving in several positions, including deacon. He enjoyed spending time with his family and woodcarving.
Richard married Jeanne Kathleen Walsh in 1947 and she passed away in August of 2010.
Survivors include two children, Patricia (Robert) Dulick of Struthers and Richard (Mary Lou) Dale Jr. of Canfield; three grandchildren, Tom (Toni) Root Jr. of Ann Arbor, Mich., Amelia Dale of Canfield and Rebecca Dale of Chicago, Ill.; two great-grandsons, Ian and Henry Root; a niece and caregiver, Suzanne Dale of Copley; and several nieces and nephews in Florida.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Meta Cramer officiating.
There are no calling hours.
