MCALLEN, Texas – Evelyn V. Laney, 76, of Dale, Texas formerly of Salem, died after a brief illness at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, with her family at her side, at McAllen Heart Hospital in McAllen, Texas.
She was born June 19, 1937 in Chester, W. Va., the daughter of the late Howard and Mabel (Allison) Strum.
Prior to leaving the Salem area in 1982, she worked as a teller at the 1st National Bank in Salem, and retired in 1999 from the United Heritage Credit Union in Austin, Texas.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Richard S. Laney of Dale, Texas; six children, Vicky Porter of Lisbon, Rick Laney of Dale, Texas, Michelle Davenport of San Antonio, Texas, Randy Laney of Dale, Texas, Sandy Guajardo of San Antonio, Texas, and Melissa Garza of Lockhart, Texas; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers Lester Strum of Lisbon, Bill Strum of St. Marys, W. Va., Joe (Debbie) Strum of Cambridge; sisters Majorie Evans of Chester, W. Va., Eleanor (Bill) Wisor of Blairsville, Pa., and Susie (Kevin) Hileman of Wellsburg, W. Va.
Following her wishes, no funeral services were conducted.
Arrangements for Evelyn were entrusted to the Rick Brown Funeral in McAllen, Texas.
