Glenn L. Davis

SALEM – Glenn L. Davis, 98, of Salem, died at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the Salem Community Hospital.

He was born Oct. 16, 1915 in Salem, son of the late Lindley George and Carrie (Beal) Davis.

Before his retirement in 1982, Glenn had worked for ITT Bell-Gossett in Morton Grove, Ill., as senior production engineer for 7 years and had previously worked at Crane Deming for 27 years as a professional consultant and chief engineer.

He was a member of the Salem First Christian Church and co-chairman of the Building Committee for the new church in 1956. Glenn was also a past master of Perry Lodge in 1947 and was an instructor and taught for 16 years at the Salem Trades School from 1939 to 1954.

His great-grandfather, Sam Davis, was the first originator of Salem (Home), City Hall and Lape Hotel.

His wife, Edith C. Wagenhouser Davis, whom he married May 1, 1937, preceded him in death Jan. 3, 2004. A sister, Arline Leibhart also preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda (David) Irwin of Salem; two grandchildren, Lorie (Bruce) Price and Heather (Vince) Keeton; and five great-grandchildren, Ashley (Dan) Lowes, Shane Tyler Wilson, Evan Keeton, Emily Keeton and Clayton Keeton; step grandson, Chad (Jen) Irwin; and two step great-grandsons, Ethan Irwin and Emory Irwin.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014 at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Leonard Moore officiating. Perry Lodge #185 will hold a Masonic Service at noon on Monday at the church with calling hours to follow from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
