Paul Richard Fast

SALEM – Paul Richard Fast, 76, of Salem, died at 1:26 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

He was born March 9, 1938 in Washingtonville, Ohio, son of the late Joseph L. and Mildred (Dunn) Fast.

Paul graduated from Salem High School and Kent State University. Before his retirement in 1997, he had been a patrolman with the Salem Police Department for 17 years, had owned and operated Muffler Man for 40 years and was service director under former mayor Bob Sell. He was a member of the Salem Perry Lodge #185 F&AM and life member of the Salem AMVETS.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958.

His wife, Bernice (Jackson) Fast, whom he married June 17, 1958 survives him along with a son, Richard Joseph (Laurie) Fast of Salem ,and a daughter, Toni (Richard) Hussar of New Springfield, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Joshua C. Alyssa, Heidi Wilhelm of Salem and Anthony Gene Fast of Tacoma, Washington.

A brother, William A. Fast preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with military honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard. Calling hours will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday prior to the services.
