Betty Jean Boston

Washingtonville Betty Jean Boston, 89, of Washingtonville, died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Boston was born Dec. 11, 1924 in East Palestine, a daughter of the late Warren L. and Grace M. Westover Zimmerman and lived in this area all of her life.

She was a graduate of Leetonia High School and had been employed at the former Mullins Manufacturing of Salem. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Leetonia, a charter member of the former Washingtonville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary where she had held all offices, and had served on the Democrat Executive Board of Columbiana County. She had also been a member of the VFW #5531 Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Post 131 Auxiliary, and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter of Salem.

Her husband, George “Hooker” Boston, whom she married Aug. 21, 1948, died March 15, 2014.

She is survived by two sisters, Nora Hussar of Salem and Lena Tingle of Leetonia; two brothers, LeRoy Zimmerman of Colorado and Ralph Zimmerman of Washingtonville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Louise Wood and a brother, Wayne Zimmerman.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia with Pastor Cyndi Midlick officiating. Burial will follow in Washingtonville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
