Harold W. Carr

NORTH BENTON — Harold W. Carr, 85, of North Benton died after a brief illness, surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born on Oct. 20, 1931 in Kusooth, W.Va., to the late Fred and Estella (Frye) Carr.

He worked as a millwright for 39 years at Babcock & Wilcox Tubular Products in Alliance and then as a supervisor at Control Services & Installation in Akron, working throughout the Akron and Cleveland area, as well as working on a school renovation project in Michigan, construction projects in Columbus, OH, and a complete renovation of the Cleveland Masonic Temple. He oversaw renovation projects and managed maintenance crews at Kent City Schools, Cuyahoga County Youth Home, and Portage County Facilities until his retirement in 2005.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C.  He was an active member of the Damascus United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine (Hands) Carr; sons Jeffrey (Kaylie) of Cary, N.C., and Brian (Shawna) of Alliance; and six grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Damascus United Methodist Church followed by interment with military honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard at Grandview Cemetery in Sebring.

Calling hours will be held o from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Gednetz-Ruzek-Brown Funeral Home in Sebring and from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday prior the service at the church.

A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m.  Thursday at the funeral home.
