John Bailey “Charles” Blackburn

SALINEVILLE — John Bailey “Charles” Blackburn, 88, of Salineville died at Salem Regional Medical Center Wednesday.

He was born Sept. 23, 1928 in Pikeville, Ky., to the late Bradley and Cora (Justice) Blackburn.

He had lived in the area since 1944. He retired from Eljer’s in Salem. He also drove a steel truck and worked at Mullins. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church in Summitville.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Elizabeth (Chory) Blackburn whom he married Feb. 10, 1953. Also surviving are five children, “Ed” (Karla) Blackburn of New Garden, Karen (Chris) Brothers of Summitville, Phyllis (Rick) Lautzenheiser of Hanoverton, Kenny (Cheryl) Blackburn of Hanoverton and Theresa (Jim) Burgess of Lisbon; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ceila Brown of Salem and Loraine (Ray) Ketchum of Salineville.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Maple Cotton Funeral Home in Kensington.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Steve Wassie officiating at St. John’s. Burial will follow at the church cemetery in Summitville. Military honors will be provided by the VFW, the American Legion and the DAV.
