Helen A. Gustafson

COLUMBIANA — Helen A. Gustafson, 87, of Columbiana, died on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Salem Regional Medical Center.

She was born on March 17, 1929, in Salem, a daughter of the late Jefferson and Olive (Rapp) Pike.

Helen worked as both a loving homemaker and a medical receptionist for Dr. King in Columbiana for many years. She was a member of the Grace Church of Columbiana, as well as the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She also belonged to the “Sub-Debs” of Salem and volunteered at Salem Regional Medical Center for many years.

Helen enjoyed playing golf and she belonged to several different leagues. She was an avid Cleveland sports fan and loved traveling, cooking, reading, walking her “Scottie’s” and playing cards with her friends. Mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Her husband, Edward W. Gustafson, whom she married Oct. 23, 1948, preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 2009.

She is survived by two daughters, Vicki (Denny) Waggle of Salem and Lori (Erik) Tadge of Perry, Ohio; two sons, Greg (Ann) Gustafson and Tim Gustafson, both of Columbiana; a brother, Harold Pike of Salem; a granddaughter, Keri Gustafson and a grandson Brian (Jena) Gustafson, both of Columbiana; a stepgrandson, Bryan Tadge of Lyndhurst, Ohio; a stepgranddaughter, Kelly Tadge of Lakewood, Ohio; and a great-grandson, Braden Gustafson.

Helen’s family would like to thank both the staff of Salem Regional Medical Center and the staff of Community Hospice for their exemplary care and compassion.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home in Columbiana.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Robert Joy officiating. Burial will be in the Columbiana Cemetery.
