Joan A. Barrett

LEETONIA — Joan A. Barrett, 89, beloved mother and devoted wife and grandmother, died at 1 a.m. Sunday, April 16, 2017, at the Vista Center in Lisbon.

Mrs. Barrett was born June 16, 1927, in Leetonia, a daughter of the late John and Josephine Beiling Frenger and had lived in this area all of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She loved to play bingo and was an avid card player.

She was preceded in death on Aug. 24, 2004, by her husband, James Barrett, whom she married Sept. 20, 1944.

She is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Sauerwein of Leetonia and Janice Gregory of Sagamore Hills, Ohio; a brother, John Frenger of Columbiana; four grandchildren, Michael Jones, Marla Adams, Jamie Sorrell and Jessica Gregory; and four great-grandchildren, Clay Adams, Olivia Adams, Violet Adams and Destiny Sorrell.

She was also preceded in death by a son, James P. Barrett.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Stephen Wassie officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home in Leetonia.
