BSOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. — Barbara Anne McMahan, of South Burlington, passed away on July 23, 2017, at Spring Village at Essex due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
Anne was born in Salem, Ohio, on July 5, 1943, the daughter of John H. Raley and Hallie Y. Copper of Signal, Ohio.
She graduated from Beaver Local High School in 1961 and James Madison University in 1965.
She is survived by her husband, Robert C. McMahan of Williston, Vt.; son, Jeffrey J. McMahan, his wife Heather Ross, and grandchildren Emma and Evan of Shelburne, Vt.; daughter, Jennifer E. (McMahan) Gonzalez, her husband Dr. Mauricio Gonzalez, and grandchildren Isabella and Natalia of Needham Mass.; sister, Sarajane King and her husband Dr. Richard King of Cincinnati, Ohio; several nephews and nieces; and close friends Bruce and Margaret King of Tucson, Ariz.
Anne taught school in Middletown, R.I., Lansing, Mich., Adult Basic Education in Chittenden County, Vt., and South Burlington High School, retiring in 1999. She was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church, an avid reader, enjoying her book group for nearly 50 years and was past treasurer of the Burlington Garden Club. Anne will be remembered as a kind person who loved her family and was a friend to all.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Faith United Methodist Church, 899 Dorset St. South Burlington. Interment will be held privately at Shelburne Community Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
