William David “Dave” Thompson

LISBON – William David “Dave” Thompson, born at home in Gavers, Ohio, on Jan. 23, 1940, died at 9:48 a.m. Monday at the East Liverpool City Hospital.

Mr. Thompson, who resided on State Route 154 in Lisbon, had been ill just a short time and died at the age of 77.

A son of the late David William and Lois Warrick Thompson, he was a 1958 graduate of David Anderson High School.

He had been a boilermaker for over 27 years at the former Crucible Steel Corporation, and was currently driving for Ferguson School Bus Transport System.

On Feb.1, 2007, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel French Thompson, whom he married on Sept. 22, 1957.

Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn (Harris) Young of Georgetown, Texas, and Diana “DeDe” Thompson of Lisbon; and five sons, David (Renee) Thompson of New Waterford; Warren (Darla) Thompson of Pflugerville, Texas; Mark (Dorothy) Thompson of Lisbon; Duane (Tammy) Thompson, also of Lisbon, and Brad (Janet) Thompson of Ozona, Texas. Another son, Bret Thompson, passed away in 2003.

There are 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A brother, Walter Thompson, survives in East Liverpool.

Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m Friday at the Dawson Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Norm Eckert of the Beechwood Free Methodist Church officiating. He will be laid to rest at Kimble Cemetery in Elkton.
