Francis Leo “Butch” Goerig III
GIG HARBOR, Wash. — Francis Leo “Butch” Goerig III, 74, of Gig Harbor, Wash., passed away Nov. 10, 2018.
He was a 1962 graduate of Leetonia High School and attended Youngstown State University.
Frank (Francis) was preceded in death by parents, Francis Jr. of Mt. Clemens, Mich., Helen Haus of Canfield, Ohio; and two brothers, Wayne and Jayme.
He is survived by four siblings, David of Leetonia, Karen of San Juan Capistrano, Ca., Raymond of Dayton, Ohio, Kathy of Naples, Fla.; and son, Scott of Gig Harbor, Wash.
Frank served in the US Navy during Vietnam aboard the USS Benjamin Stoddert (DDG-22) a guided-missile armed destroyer. The ship was attacked and hit during service in Vietnam. After military service, Frank became a master mechanic and HVAC expert settling and working in the Seattle Tacoma area. He was past commander of American Legion Post 236 in Gig Harbor.
A military honor guard ceremony will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash., at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 7, 2018.
