Shirley “Shirl” J. O’Rourke
SALEM — Shirley “Shirl” J. O’Rourke, 67, of Salem, died at 7:14 a.m. Sunday at her home.
She was born May 11, 1951, in Hackensack, N. J., the daughter of the late Art and Jean (Wales) O’Rourke.
Mrs. O’Rourke was last employed as a third and fifth grade teacher for 26 years at Canfield Local Schools retiring in 2010. She previously worked as a kindergarten teacher for 24 years at Salem City Schools and Youngstown State University. She was an active member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Salem. She had received a bachelor’s of arts in education from Wittenberg University, a master’s degree in gifted and another in early childhood at YSU.
Among her survivors is her sister, Barb O’Rourke of Ramsey, N.J.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Alan Smearsoll officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. A luncheon will follow the service.. Interment will be held at Valleau Cemetery in Ridgewood, N. J.
