Gene R. Linhart

NEW SPRINGFIELD–Gene R. Linhart, 87, a lifelong resident of the area, died Friday at the Christian House Assisted Living in East Palestine.

She was born Dec. 23, 1931 in Akron, daughter of the late Harry and Edith Daley Townsend.

Gene was a 1950 graduate of Columbiana High School. In 1959, along with her husband, she started Town ‘N Country Garden Center, and later Town ‘N Country Nursery and Florist. She was a lifelong active member of New Springfield Church of God.

Gene is survived by two sons, Gary J. (Patti A.) Linhart of East Palestine and J. Scott (Kimberly Sue) Linhart of Columbiana; and two daughters, Rebecca (Michael) Minamyer of New Waterford and Billie J. (Jerry) Lyda of Canfield; a sister, Mary Jane (Joe) Donnelly; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William D. Linhart, on Aug. 26, 2013.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the New Springfield Church of God, 3649 E. Garfield Road. A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Jonathan Holloway officiating. A private interment will take place the following day at New Springfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made in Gene’s name to the New Springfield Church of God or the Mahoning County Public Special Olympics.
