Richard McClelland Gates
NEW WATERFORD — Richard McClelland Gates, 86, died Tuesday at the Calcutta Healthcare Center with family by his side.
Born Dec. 19, 1932, in New Castle, Pa., he was the son of the late Victor and Mildred (McClelland) Gates.
Mr. Gates enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean War. After discharge, he went to work at Youngstown Sheet and Tube and later for Adamson’s Tank as a welder/fitter for a number of years prior to their closing. He was a lifelong active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Springfield.
Survivors include two sons, Richard A. (Debbie) Gates and James R. (Hollee) Gates, both of New Waterford; two daughters, Linda E. (Eric) Conti of Hookstown, Pa., and Anne M. Halas of New Waterford; nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Margaret Anne (Norman) in 2003.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine (linsley-royal.com).
A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Erin Burns officiating. A private Interment will be held at New Springfield Cemetery.
