Leaked email shows Hillary’s deplorables

Clearly, some in Hillary Clinton’s campaign for president believe the religious faith of some Americans — Roman Catholics — qualifies them for inclusion in what the candidate referred to as the “deplorables” who support her opponent, Donald Trump.

Among email messages leaked from the campaign was an exchange between Jennifer Palmieri, who is Clinton’s communications director, and John Halpin of the left-leaning Center for American Progress. In it, Halpin wrote that “the most powerful elements of the conservative movement are all Catholic …”

That position is “an amazing bastardization of the faith,” he added. And finally, “They must be attracted to the systematic thought and severely backwards gender relations and must be totally unaware of Christian democracy.”

Such bighttp://www.salemnews.net/wp-admin/post-new.phpotry, not to mention failure to understand Catholicism and its faithful, is breathtaking.

So is Palmieri’s response to Halpin. She, too, was at the CAP when the emails were exchanged. She replied that Catholicism “is the most  socially acceptable politically conservative religion. Their rich friends wouldn’t understand if they became evangelicals.”

It has been suggested some of the leaked emails are fakes meant to embarrass Clinton. But if the Halpin-Palmieri exchange has been reported accurately, it is evidence that some of the deplorables in politics this year are in Clinton’s camp.
