It’s time again to ‘Feed the Salem Community Pantry

We often utilize this editorial positioning to promote good deeds and worthwhile causes. We think it is important to provide exposure because the community as a whole benefits. “Feed the Salem Community Pantry” is certainly such a deserving event.

For those making dinner plans, here is a good cause you can really sink your teeth into. Fat Tuesday will be held this coming Tuesday — Feb. 28 — at the Salem Community Center. It will benefit the local food pantry.

The SCC is joining with members of the Salem Rotary and Kiwanis clubs to present what has become a very popular yearly event. It will be held from 5-7 p.m. Admission is $10 per adult. Kids 12 and under eat for $5. Beats a kiddie meal at a fast food restaurant anytime. And the prices have not gone up.

Tickets are available and can be purchased at the SCC or from a Rotarian or Kiwanian. Food vendors along with celebrity chefs will provide the food. Lots of food. Lots of delicious food. Benefiting — beside palates and stomachs — will be the Salem Community Pantry.

That organization has become a staple in providing for the needy in our community. And it seems there is an endless line of those in need. You possibly know somebody taking advantage of the food pantry. Perhaps you have relied on it too. There is no shame in that.

The pantry has provided food for hundreds of local residents. Fortunately, we have had good responses to the wants of the pantry. When it comes to clubs being proactive in helping others, you can’t top the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs of Salem. This is one of the clubs’ biggest ways of helping the community during the course of a year. We praise club members for their efforts and we commend everyone involved with Fat Tuesday, including those like yourself if taking part.

Just remember to bring your appetite. It is money very well spent. And you won’t go home hungry.
