Trump, Congress should keep trying

Liberals who favor government control of the nation’s health care system reacted with glee to last week’s failure of a reform bill in the U.S. House of Representatives.

There, an attempt to repeal and replace Obamacare never even came up for a vote. It was obvious that had the yeas and nays been ordered, the bill would have been defeated.

Failure to replace Obamacare plays right into the ultra-liberals’ hands, and not in the obvious way. They are well aware the current health insurance system cannot survive. It is based on a facade of lies and unrealistic assumptions.

Obamacare’s eventual collapse may have been the liberals’ plan all along. That would clear the way for them to insist the only alternative is their much longed-for “single-payer system.” The single payer would be government, which would be the only provider of health insurance. That would be a catastrophe for most Americans.

Republicans who tried and failed to repeal and replace Obamacare last week may not have had a realistic strategy. Their goal was more than good, however. Replacing Obamacare with a realistic program is absolutely imperative.

So the White House and Congress should try again — and keep trying until they get it right.
