Best of luck to all area fall sports participants

Almost as if on cue, unseasonal autumn-like weather has arrived just in time for something that many local students, their parents and grandparents circle on the calendar weeks in advance: the start of the high school football season. It’s such a big part of a new school year.

High school stadiums throughout our area — including Salem’s Reilly Stadium — will be the places to be tonight as a brand new football season kicks off for most schools. Columbiana and Western Reserve met last night.

Salem lost some key ingredients from a 5-5 team a year ago but does return seven starters on each of the ball and should have a successful year. In case you missed it, check out our special High School Football 2017 section we presented in Thursday’s Salem News. It’s full of photos, schedules, stats and features on each of the fifteen schools in our readership coverage area. And we will be publishing a fall sports section soon.

Not to be overlooked because of the arrival of football are the other fall sports teams which already began their respective seasons such as volleyball, cross country, tennis, soccer and golf.

We wish our very best to all local fall sports participants including players, cheerleaders, band members, advisers and coaching staffs. All of you help make this time of year so very special and exciting.
