Public hearings set on Perry Twp. zoning changes

PERRY TWP. — Public hearings regarding zoning changes are scheduled for October.

A public hearing is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 2 at the administration building for a proposed change in zoning for a parcel of land on Allen Road so that Quality Trailer can store trailers on it. The trustees Monday night approved the zoning board’s recommendation to change the parcel from agricultural to light industrial, but the trustees must hold a public hearing on the issue before giving final approval.

According to Fiscal Officer Susan Johnston, property owner Bill Slanker had originally requested a change to heavy industrial, but the zoning board said it did not feel it needed to be heavy industrial.

A public hearing regarding changes to the zoning book will precede the one for the zoning change at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 2.

Johnston said the changes mostly address typographical corrections and rewording of rules, but one change does increase the size allowable without appeal for exterior storage buildings depending on the size of the lot.

In other business, trustees named to the zoning board Joe Farago, Bruce Capel and Larry Evans.

The trustees also approved $4,300 to replace radios for the fire department. Trustee Don Rudibaugh said Fire Chief Bruce Witcher is replacing the radios a few each year, similar to other equipment at the department, to avoid large overhauls. Rudibaugh also noted Witcher has applied for a couple grants, but has been unsuccessful.

The Oct. 9 meeting has been changed to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at the administration building.

The next regular trustees meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the administration building, preceded by a presentation by Ohio Township Association Risk Management Authority (OTARMA) at 6 p.m.
